Have a question about our products or growing methods? Ask us, and we'll try and answer it here.
Q: Do Windset tomatoes need to be refrigerated?
A: No. Refrigerated tomatoes turn 'watery' and quickly lose their texture and flavour. Keep them stored in a cool dry place for maximum taste and enjoyment.
Q: Where are Windset fruits and vegetables sold?
A: You can purchase Windset Farms produce at many locations throughout North America. Look for our Windset Farms logo and talk to your local grocery store produce manager if you'd like to try any of our products. You can also call or email us using the contact information section in this website.
Q: What does "vine-ripened" mean?
A: Many tomato growers use artificial means to ripen tomatoes from the outside in, either before or after harvesting. At Windset Farms, all of our tomatoes are ripened on the vine from the inside out, just as nature intended. This natural ripening increases the sweet flavor of our produce.
Q: What is lycopene?
A: Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that is beneficial in preventing certain types of cancer by protecting the body against free radicals that cause cells to break down. Tomatoes are an excellent source of lycopene.
Q: How do you control pests?
A: Our integrated pest management approach means that we introduce certain 'good bugs' into our greenhouses that are natural predators of bugs that might damage our plants.
Q: Is your produce genetically engineered or modified?
A: No. We grow all of our produce from seeds that have been naturally bred. We do not use any seeds that have been genetically modified.
Q: Why grow vegetables in a greenhouse?
A: A greenhouse allows us to control the environment year-round -- in terms of plant nutrition, light, heat and humidity -- to create optimal growing conditions for our produce. To find out more about the greenhouse advantage, check out the BC Greenhouse Growers' Association Quick Facts page:
